they are an invasive species and they are illegal because of it. There are serious fines you can get charged with for having these animals as pets, Oh and also 9sheto9 is right, once you cath a snakehead in the US it is illegal to throw it back, you are supposed to kill it freeze it and bring it to your local fish and game department

They are all over the place now.
Down here it is not like the Maryland case where they were in one pond.

I don’t have a freezer big enough to hold all the snakeheads in this canal.
They are established in South Florida, for better or worse.
They are tasty if you don’t over cook them.
If I see a mating pair with a school of babies, I snatch hook the parents and leave the babies for the Peacock and Largemouths to feed on.
I doubt it will impact the population all that much but it does make me feel better.
